Former President Donald Trump has been endorsed by more than 100 faith leaders in South Carolina ahead of the state’s Republican presidential primary on February 24.
Trump called the endorsements a “significant milestone” ahead of the primary.
“This remarkable achievement reflects President Trump’s unrivaled support from Palmetto State voters who overwhelmingly support his campaign to defeat Joe Biden and restore our nation in November,” the former president’s campaign said in a press release.
“President Trump’s long record of accomplishments has generated substantial confidence from voters of faith in South Carolina. From defending Judeo-Christian culture to finally overturning Roe v. Wade, President Trump has always kept his promises to America’s faith community,” Trump’s campaign added.
Pastor Brad Atkins from Spartanburg County (pictured here), one of the 102 faith leaders who endorsed Trump, said the former president is the “only candidate with a proven record” of fighting for religious freedoms.
“President Trump is the only candidate with a proven record of fighting for our religious freedoms. He is gifted with the abilities to once again strengthen the American economy while protecting the security and freedom of American families,” Pastor Atkins said.
The endorsements come as Trump is expected to defeat Nikki Haley, who served as Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, in the state’s primary by a landslide, as outlined in recent polls.
FiveThirtyEight’s South Carolina Republican primary polling tracker, as of Monday, February 12, shows Trump in the lead with 65.2 percent compared to Haley’s 31.8 percent.
A Morning Consult poll, conducted between January 23 and February 4, also shows Trump with a gigantic 37-point lead over Haley in the South Carolina GOP primary, as the former president garnished 68 percent compared to the former governor’s 31 percent.
Trump is scheduled to hold a Get Out the Vote Rally on Wednesday, February 14 at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston ahead of next week’s primary.
