President Joe Biden’s attempt to rewrite Title IX to include gender identity was officially blocked by a federal court Thursday.
The rule rewrite would have allowed biological males to compete in women’s sports and use women’s spaces. Challengers to the rule hailed the court’s decision, with Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti declaring the ruling to be a “massive win.”
“It is abundantly clear that discrimination on the basis of sex means discrimination on the basis of being a male or female… Expanding the meaning of ‘on the basis of sex’ to include ‘gender identity’ turns Title IX on its head,” George W. Bush-appointed Chief Judge Danny C. Reeves wrote in the Kentucky district court’s decision.

Biden first proposed the rewrite in a January 2021 executive order and later released a final rule in April, which was immediately met with legal challenges. The rule had already been blocked in several states as litigation continued.

The Biden Administration announced it was no longer pursing efforts to rewrite the rule in December after several legal challenges prevented it from taking effect before Biden leaves office.
The White House and Department of Education did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
