The Trump administration Wednesday cut back deportation protections given to hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans handed out by President Joe Biden just days before he left office.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revoked an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted to roughly 600,000 Venezuelan nationals earlier in January under the previous administration, according to a DHS memo obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The decision comes as the Trump White House continues on with its hawkish immigration enforcement agenda.

Venezuela’s dictator Nicolas Maduro temporarily banned X from the country on Thursday after accusing the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, of using it to stoke opposition against him.

Maduro declared himself the victor in the country’s July 28 elections, despite credible concerns that the race was rigged against his political opposition. Musk has been publicly critical of Maduro’s refusal to step down from power, and Maduro has now suspended X from Venezuela in retaliation.

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) refuses to publicly identify the dozens of U.S. international airports for which it has approved direct flights from abroad for certain inadmissible aliens. At least 386,000 migrants through February have been allowed to fly to interior U.S. airports as part of a legally dubious admissions program the administration launched in October 2022. The rationale for the program is to “reduce the number of individuals crossing unlawfully” over the southern border — by flying them over it directly into the interior and then releasing them on parole.
